How Tim reduced his handicap to 2.7
in his 60s with the help of the academy
"I have played golf for over 50 years and had the pleasure of watching many of the game’s greats from up close, and even caddied on tour for a major champion.
I have always felt like a good putter, but been frustrated by how inconsistent I was. Back in the day we only counted total putts and that just seemed so un-informative. I wasn’t sure where I was lacking, and therefore what to work on, so I just hopped from fad to fad. I had no way of assessing whether or not what I was doing was to a pro-level or 20 handicap level.
I considered putting lessons, but to be honest, there just were not any coaches available with any sort of track record in putting that I felt comfortable committing to.
The Academy has given me access to the top tier of advice. I now know that whatever changes I am making are not just an experiment and are based on proven techniques.
I measure my putting performance on every round using the Arcoss strokes gained database. Since joining I am saving several strokes per round and am now only 1 or 2 strokes behind Tour average. Just shows that even in your late 60’s this is one area of golf you can still get better.
My one golf ambition is to shoot my age before I am 70. I have had a few 68s this year so at 66 I am close. Hopefully with an improved putting approach I can knock a couple of shots off in the next couple of years and then consider myself to have completed Golf!"
